Lake Charles Dance Academy is a ballet school in Lake Charles, LA. LCDA offers ballet classes, pointe classes, tap classes, jazz classes, hip hop classes, contemporary classes, pilates classes, and acrobatics beginning at age 4.

LCDA Curriculum

At The Lake Charles Dance Academy, our comprehensive curriculum offers a dynamic range of classes including ballet, acro, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and tap, designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and nurture a passion for dance in every student.

Pre-Kinderdance

This class uses imaginative, fun musical activities to build strength, flexibility, and body awareness

Kinderdance

These 30 minute classes introduce children to ballet basics and are somewhat more structured than the Pre-Kinderdance class

Ballet

Students advance through the class levels based on the mastery of developmental skills and class syllabus

Jazz

This 30 – 60 minute class emphasizes lyrical, Broadway-style jazz, and traditional forms of jazz movement.

Hip-Hop

This 30 – 45 minutes class is an ideal way to express one’s creativeness.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a mixture of modern, jazz and ballet. Strong ballet technique and physical strength is needed for this class.

Tap

Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced Tap lessons, please refer to the schedule for day and time

Acro

One-hour class teaches tumbling and acrobatics by developing skill levels incrementally

Adult

This class is designed for “beginners” or those with previous experience who wish to eventually transition into the LCDA ballet curriculum or for those who wish to learn and refine the ballet basics

Colleen Cannon Benoit established The Lake Charles Dance Academy in 2011 after many years of teaching, performing and training in classical ballet.

She studied nationally receiving many scholarships for study and took classes with many nationally renowned teachers. Her training includes two scholarships to the Regional Dance America’s Craft of Choreography Conference, The School of American Ballet in NYC, The North Carolina School of the Arts, The Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, the International Ballet Competition, and the Joffrey Workshop.

She has had the privilege of studying with world renowned teachers including Edward Villella, Gwen Ashton, Marjorie Mussman, David Howard, Robert Joffrey, Richard Englund, Patricia Wilde, Soili Arvola and Leo Ahonen. She has performed lead roles in many of the full length ballets that the Lake Charles Ballet Society produced including Coppelia, The Nutcracker, and La Fille Mal Gardee.
